One of Cebu’s leading cooperative seeks enrollment of its members in oneSTore as it inked a deal with the Department of Science and Technology 7 (DOST 7) to provide them better economic opportunities through the agency’s e-commerce platform.

The Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative, led by its Executive Director Macario Quevedo, formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DOST 7 on September 8, 2017, tapping the latter for various assistance to empower its members by enabling them to use science and technology for educational and livelihood purposes.

The cooperative has thousands of members who engage in small-scale businesses that need assistance in marketing their products to boost profit.  By enrolling them in oneSTore.ph, an e-commerce web application that operates nationwide, they would gain better opportunity to widen their market base through online shopping.

Aside from access to safe online marketing and shopping service, the coop members can also avail themselves of the hub’s delivery service as DOST links with a partner logistics firm that takes care of safe delivery of goods purchased through OneStore.ph portal.

Just recently, Cebu People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative acquired a unit of DOST STARBOOKS, a standalone digital information kiosk, which DOST 7 installed in the coop’s office at the South Bus Terminal building for livelihood research of its farmer-members.

During the MOA signing, Quevedo said he wanted to ensure sustainability in the coop’s funding assistance to farmers not only by helping them raise the productivity and profitability of their livelihoods.

He also said the coop wanted to protect their interest as innocent customers and consumers from the risks involved in making online transactions.

With DOST’s assistance, Quevedo said he was confident that the coop can achieve this objective.

In response, DOST 7 Regional Director Edilberto Paradela assured the coop of its help but even proposed to devise a program to encourage coop members to embark on startup business ventures.

With its training and technical support programs, DOST 7 will help members acquire entrepreneurial competencies to make startup businesses graduate into adoptors of DOST’s technology transfer and commercialization under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
