Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 7 Regional Director Edilberto Paradela urged  new graduates to put their innovative skills in good stead to help improve the quality of  life in the country.

Paradela delivered his message before about 500 fresh graduates during the graduation ceremony at the CTU University – Barili Campus in Barili, Cebu, over the weekend.

Underscoring the historical roles  professionals play in nation-building, he pointed out that the people’s ability to address their basic needs have been greatly aided by  professionals who, with the use of technology and innovation, have produced the tools and materials needed to satisfy those needs.

“Almost all modern tools we use in our modern living today are products of innovative works of professionals in the past. The world has reached the amazing level of progress it is enjoying now because of professionals concretizing their innovative ideas and technological ingenuity to improve quality of life, Paradela said.

The DOST 7 head challenged the new graduates, regardless of their chosen fields, to not just dream of being able to do what their predecessors did but to also do something to actually do more than what the latter had done for the good humanity.

“In your shoulders, therefore, my fellow professionals,  lies the responsibility to equal, if not surpass, the great works of your forbears in the professional fields who have contributed to the betterment of life of humankind through technology and innovation”, he said.

“ Don’t just dream to become great innovators. Take the bold steps to realize your dream by translating your innovative capacities into benecial reality for the good of society”, he added.

Paradela’s challenge was also in line with the government call for  people’s involvement to realize “Ambisyon Natin 2040” which outlines government’s long term vision of better socio-economic life for the country for the next 25 years.
