Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology here is now accepting applications for its Undergraduate Scholarship Programs – Republic Act No. 7687 and Merit.

RA 7687, or “Science and Technology Act of 1994”, provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whole families’ socio-economic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching. Merit program, on the other hand, is awarded to non-poor students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

The said scholarships are open to all graduating senior high school students who are enrolled in public and private schools. Grade 12 students taking up Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) strand are all qualified to apply. Meanwhile, non-STEM strand students must belong to the Top 5% of their class to be able to apply.

To be able to enjoy the scholarship, applicants should pass the 2021 S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Examination and pursue a Bachelor of Science degree program in any of the priority fields of study at a state university or college or any private higher education institution that is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Center of Excellence or Center of Development or with at least FAAP Level III accreditation for the BS program that they intend to enroll in.

Exam passers will enjoy P40,000.00 subsidy for tuition and school fees, receive P10,000.00 book allowance per academic year, and be given P7,000.00 monthly living allowance for the academic year, among other benefits.
