Dumaguete City – The Department of Science and Technology here in Negros Oriental recently turned over P1,060,00 worth of technological assistance to Villahermosa Pancit Canton Manufacturing through the agency’s Small Enterprise Technological Upgrading Program (SETUP).
DOST Negros Oriental Provincial S&T Director Atty. Gilbert R. Arbon personally turned over the technological assistance to the President and CEO Mr. Wilson Villahermosa.
In return, Mr. Villahermosa give 37 post-dated checks to DOST NegOr for the monthly rental payment of the technological assistance for zero interest. The company will start paying DOST one year after the release of the assistance. All equipment will remain property of DOST for the 3-year period. After the 3-year period of payment and after paying 0.5% of the total cost of the equipment termed as option-to buy fee, the noodle processor will assume ownership of the processing equipment.
Included in the technological assistance are various processing equipment, product testing, and enhanced packaging and labelling.
Villahermosa Pancit Canton Manufacturing is located in Poblacion, Basay, Negros Oriental. It manufactures and sells fresh noodles (fresh miki), pancit canton and dried noodles.
The local noodle manufacturer was able to successfully defend his project proposal through the guidance of DOST Negros Oriental before the DOST VII Regional Technical Evaluation Committee (RTEC). The RTEC then recommended its approval to the DOST VII Regional Director which in turn approved his project proposal for funding.
SETUP is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.
The said program focuses assistance on the following priority sector, namely; Food processing; Furniture; Gifts, housewares, decors; Marine and aquatic resources; Horticulture and agriculture; Metals and engineering; Health products and services/Pharmaceuticals; and ICT/Electronics.
