The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cebu Provincial Office successfully organized and conducted the US NRA International ServSafe Food Protection – Food Safety Online Course and Examinations and all participant-examinees successfully passed the online examinations held last November 12 – 13, 2020 via Online and Zoom. The course sponsored and provided by DOST Cebu for free to Food Safety Trainers and Managers all over the country is part of the agency’s National Science and Technology (NSTW) 2020 celebration activities. The course was joined by participants coming from both private and government sectors including UP Diliman, Cebu Food Consultancy Group (CFCG), DOST-ITDI, and DOST Regional Offices.

This US NRA ServSafe program is the premier and leading International Food Safety Manager Certification in the US and abroad. Among the government agencies in the country, this course is delivered only by DOST Cebu’s Food Safety Team. The resource speaker was Mr. Bryan B. Ybanez, a food microbiologist and certified advanced-level US NRA ServSafe Instructor and Proctor as well as DOST Cebu’s OIC Provincial Director.

The training, welcomed by DOST 7 OIC Regional Director Engr. Samuel Parcon, was actively attended by trainers and managers from various institutions namely: AFOS Foundation, Virginia Food Inc., Alfa All Food Asia Inc., Davao Food Safety Thinktank Inc., Phil. Sci. High School, Isabela State University (Cauayan Campus), Newton Food Products Manufacturing Corp. Inc., Bounty Fresh Food Inc., University of the Philippines, and DOST-ITDI, DOST (I, II, IX, XI, XII).  The training was a day and a half activity with discussion on the essential roles of food safety managers to effectively implement food safety management system programs in the workplace. In the afternoon of day 2, the participants shifted to ServSafe’s online examination platform using their purchased exam access codes and completed the exams within two hours. The results were readily available immediately thereafter which had an outstanding result of 100% passing rate and led to the international food safety certification of the participants.
