DUMAGUETE CITY (July 27, 2018) – The Nangka Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Farmers’ Association (NABEFA) in Bayawan City is the latest recipient of the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Institute’s KABALIKAT innovation award in the small-scale category as announced by FNRI in an official communication last week.
KABALIKAT is an acronym for Kabalikat ng Lipunan sa Kalusugang pang-Nutrisyon at Teknolohiya. The award aims to recognize technology adoptors who are socially responsible in collaborating with DOST-FNRI and LGUs in producing complementary food products for the feeding programs in malnutrition reduction program (MRP) areas. NABEFA received a cash prize of Php 100,000.00 and a plaque of recognition. The award ceremony was held on July 27, 2018 at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel, Ayala Center, Makati City.
“We are very grateful for this award. At first we were surprised when we heard the news because there are a lot of BigMo adoptors nationwide and have established way before us. We consider this as a great blessing. It’s a huge honor for us and Bayawan City. This is a testament of our hardwork and dedication in what we do-and that is to produce nutritious food blends and curls. This is a great step moving forward”, said Mrs. Jill Marie dela Cruz, plant manager of NABEFA.
NABEFA’s processing plant is located at Sitio Canalum, Brgy. Nangka. As technology adoptor, the firm produces innovated community-based Rice-Mongo (BigMo) complementary food blends and curls, which is a rising venture for the rice farming community of Nangka. Presently, it has 81 farmer-members. (Sean Adrian T. Guardiano/DOST Negros Oriental S&T Media Service)
