DOST SIQUIJOR PSTC through its Provincial Director Engr. Mario E. de la Peńa awarded a P200,000.00 CEST project on bulb onion production to members of Bitaug Small Coconut Farmers Association (BISMACOFA) through Siquijor State College as the implementing agency on 25 January 2022.

This is a second intervention made by DOST-7 to BISMACOFA; the first was CEST on peanut and vermicomposting productions.  Peculiarly, this bulb onion production’s grant has come as a result of BISMACOFA’s winning as the province of Siquijor and the Region-7 best CEST community for year 2021.

“Another blessing has been endowed to you.  Take it no less than a responsibility for you to make a difference in your lives.  You are on the right track to empowerment.  Inch up more – you have been cited as the best CEST community for 2021.  Make it happen again this 2022,” as Engr. de la Peńa conveyed a message to BISMACOFA through the project leader Dr. Philna S. Palongpalong.

DOST’s CEST intervention is one of its agency’s various programs, the purpose of which is to empower community through the use of science and technology.  In the context of BISMACOFA’s way of farming, it has already incorporated the technology of vermi-fertilizer to boost production of its farm.  It is nothing but a pursuit to organic farming.
