The DOST 7 employees in their “stop the violence” advocacy in the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to end VAW, held at DOST 7 Regional Office, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City on November 29, 2022.

“We in the government should be at the forefront of ending violence, this observance is a great opportunity for us to take part in the advocacy of putting an end to this violence, let’s learn more about anti-VAWC laws,” said Engr. Tristan Abando, ARD for Technical Operations Division of DOST 7. He further added, “if we say One DOST For You, we shall also say One DOST for a VAWC Free Philippines.”

A total of 77 (Female 36, Male 41) DOST 7 employees join forces to call for End Violence Against Women (VAW) and Children through public awareness, with the theme “United for a VAW-free Philippines”  in the observance of the annual 18 – Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1172, s. 2006 and Republic Act. No. 10398, s.2012

The key activities conducted in collaboration with the Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment, University of Cebu include, the Virtual Anti- VAW Laws Orientation and Video Film Showing on November 29, 2022, hanging of the 2022 18-Day Campaign to End VAW official Streamer with the link, active participation in online campaign threads, dissemination of DOST VII VAWC IEC materials to respective clients and through “Orange Your Icon” Advocacy.

Atty Archill Niňa Capistrano and Prof. Henry Francis B. Espiritu of the University of the Philippines Cebu, shared the salient features of the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313) and the significance of the creation and mobilization of the Men Opposed to VAW Everywhere (MOVE) structure in an organization.

To secure the pro-active participation of all men in an organization towards the eradication of violence against women and girls through different medium of advocacy, the DOST 7 attendees created the MOVE mechanism who will advocate towards the eradication of violence against women and girls through different medium of advocacy, through orientation, advocacy materials or through peer information about VAWC laws.

DOST 7 employees also actively participated in online campaign threads by uploading photos, news features and other information relative to the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW using the hashtags #VAWfreePH. The DOST 7 personnel also facilitated the dissemination of DOST VII VAW Laws IEC materials to respective clients.

DOST 7 also decorated the office iconic spot in Orange color which represents hope and a future free from gender-based violence against women and girls.
