To help end gender-based discrimination and show support for the passage of the anti-discrimination bill that prohibits discriminatory practices, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. VII (DOST 7) participated in the Cebu City Pride Parade on June 23, 2018 from Fuente Osmeǹa to Plaza Sugbo Cebu City Hall, Cebu City.
The City of Cebu through Mayor Tomas R. Osmeǹa, recognized the active participation of the DOST 7 in Anti-Discrimination Campaign with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Mayor Osmeǹa and the officers of the Anti-Discrimination Commission and the LGBT Help Desk.
The parade is in observance of the World Pride Month celebrated by the City of Cebu under its Anti-Discrimination Commission “to make the City free from discrimination.”
The participation of the DOST 7 is in support to the advocacy of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), to “eliminate discrimination based on diverse Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) and the need to address disparity in treatment that stems from gender biases.”
DOST 7 further supports the PCW declaration, “enacting an Anti-Discrimination Law will affirm and enforce the application of existing laws that protect the human rights of those who face human rights violation because of their SOGI.”
The parade is spearheaded by the Cebu City Hall and joined by the concerned government agencies, community organizations and private institutions.
