Dumaguete City, October 25 – Close to 350 participants joined the Basic Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) Technology Operations Webinar on October 12, 2021 via Zoom. The event was spearheaded by DOST Negros Oriental in partnership with Global Business Power (GBP-Cebu Site).

Participants are mostly mechanical engineering students and faculty from Negros Oriental State University, Cebu Technological University, and Silliman University.

The webinar discussed Introduction to Power Plant, Power Plant Operations Overview (basic components of CFB, features and advantages, operating principles), and Environmental Impact Management (conservation, environmental initiatives and legacy projects).

“One of the unique features of the CFB boiler as compared to other boilers (Pulverized Coal or PC Boilers and Bubbling Bed Boilers) is that you can use wide range of fuels like biomass, low class coals to high class coals, and many others,” discussed by Engr. Lhoven D. Larrobis of GBP who was the resource person of said webinar.

Engr. Larrobis added that CFB is higher in combustion efficiency as compared to PC Boilers and Bubbling Bed Boilers. Also, it has an efficient sulfur removal, low NOx emission, good turndown and load-following capability, and suitability for supercritical operation.

The webinar conducted was also co-organized by the Department of Science and Technology Scholars’ Association in Negros Oriental which comprised comprised of DOST Scholars’ Association in NORSU and DOST Scholars’ Association in Silliman University.

Although there was a sudden power interruption in the middle of the webinar, the organizers have decided that the recorded webinar to be available in three sessions on October 14, 2021 and one session on October 15, 2021.
