There are plenty of reasons why coconut is called the “tree of life” in the Asia-Pacific Region.

The Department of Science and Technology-Negros Oriental Provincial Science and Technology Center (DOST NegOr PSTC) in collaboration with DCCCO Multipurpose Cooperative and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) conducted the skills training on coco sap sugar production at Balugo, Sibulan on October 6, 2018.

Around 35 men and women’s groups from Sibulan and Dumaguete City attended the event. The training aimed to capacitate the participants by training them on basic coco sap sugar production as well as upgrade the state of life through revenues accrued from the business venture. Ms. Rosalinda P. Arbon, agriculturist of PCA NegOr served as the resource person during the training.

After the training, the participants were able to sell packs of coco sugar resulting to reasonable income. Interested organizations can avail of DOST NegOr’s training services through (035) 421-2100; 225-4551, or personally visit the office in Daro, Dumaguete City. (By: PSTC Negros Oriental)
