September 8, Dumaguete City – DOST Negros Oriental participated in the Dauin Agro-Fair 2022 organized by the Local Government of Dauin last September 7, 2022 to promote the agency’s programs to on-going Grade 12 students and the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs).

DOST NegOr encouraged the MSMEs to avail the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). It is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting MSMEs to adopt technological innovations to improve their products, services, operations and increase their productivity and competitiveness.

The municipality of Dauin, being a tourism destination, is host to a sizeable MSMEs particularly in the food processing and agriculture sectors.

Atty. Gilbert R. Arbon, Provincial S&T Director of DOST Negros Oriental, is hoping for more applicants from this municipality.

This year, DOST has already received and approved one application for SETUP from an MSME here in Dauin. This client availed SETUP to upgrade the processing of its baked products. DOST NegOr is encouraging other MSMEs to avail of this service as well.

The agency also promoted the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships to the residents of Dauin. All on-going Grade 12 students are encouraged to apply for the Undergraduate Scholarships upon the opening of its application either this September or October.

Currently, there are nine DOST scholars from the Municipality of Dauin. Five of them who are enrolled in Negros Oriental State University are taking up BS Civil Engineering, BS Computer Engineering, BS Electronics and Communications Engineering, BS Geodetic Engineering, and BS Geothermal Engineering. The other four scholars who are enrolled in Silliman University are taking up BS Biology, BS Mathematics, BS Medical Technology and BS Physics.

In another development, Atty. Arbon together with fellow members of the Rotary Club of Dumaguete City East distributed schools supplies and hygiene kits to the students, faculty and staff of Dauin National High School. (by: Engr.
