Members of BISMACOFA underwent a training on Organic Agriculture Production with Mr. Elnard S. Ympal as the main facilitator.

The DOST Siquijor PSTC commissioned a training on Organic Agriculture Production to members of Bitaug Small Coconut Farmers Association (BISMACOFA) on 14 January 2022 where Mr. Elnard S. Ympal, TESDA TVET Career Ambassador/OFP Competency Assessor assumed as the main facilitator.

BISMACOFA has been a recipient of DOST PCAARRD’s Science and Technology Community-based for Inclusive Development (STC4iD) and DOST VII’s Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) projects.

Engr. Mario E. de la Peńa noted:  “This is a way to consolidate all the trainings being afforded to BISMACOFA under STC4iD’s integrated vegetable gardening and CEST’s vermicomposting and peanut production.  There is also the recent bulb onion production project from DOST VII as per winning of BISMACOFA as the best CEST community both in the province of Siquijor and Region VII.  With this training, the pursuit of sustainability of these projects would be warranted.”

Organic farming is mandated by Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 or RA 10068 which promotes the “ecologically sound, socially acceptable, economically viable and technically feasible production of food and fibers.”

BISMACOFA of Bitaug, Enrique Villanueva, to date, is producing various vegetables, vermifertilizers, native chickens, and eggs.
