SIQUIJOR, Feb. 13 (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Siquijor recently turned over P350,000 worth of check as financial grant under its Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program to the Department of Education (DepED) here.

The fund is for the acquisition of computer sets for seven schools which will be the next batch of schools in the province that will be installed with the Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks or STARBOOKS, another program of DOST under the Science and Technology Information Institute.

STARBOOKS is a standalone digitized library that contains information resources in different formats that could be accessed offline. 

With the GIA fund, schools in the province of Siquijor such as Larena, Siquijor, San Juan, and Maria integrated schools and Kinamandagan and Ponong National High School are expected to have their own STARBOOKS kiosks this year.

“These additional units will go a long way in the academic development of our secondary school students,” said Division Superintendent Dr. Neri Ojastro. 

The turnover was led by Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Mario de la Peña who handed the check to Ojastro at DepED Siquijor Division Office.
