September 9, Cebu City – The Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST VII) declared the winners of the first ever Search for the Most Outstanding Scholars Association in Region 7.

The DOST Scholars’ Association in Bohol (DOST SA Bohol) bagged the first place while DOST SA Negros Oriental and DOST SA CIT-U placed second and third, respectively.

The announcement of winners was held during the closing ceremonies of the virtual National Science and Technology Week celebration & Regional Inventions Contest and Exhibits (RICE) in Central Visayas last August 27, 2021.

DOST Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Dir. Josette T. Biyo virtually announced the winners of the contest.

During the virtual event Dr. Biyo said that this award is initiated to recognize the DOST Scholarship Associations in Region 7 (DOST SA 7) of their efforts, engagements, endeavours and contributions to the associations’ members, the university, the DOST and the community. This also looks into their alignment to the Science Education Institute’s mandate to accelerate the pool of S&T human resources and create a community of scholars who promote a culture of excellence that will help in the inclusive growth of the nation through the DOST Patriot Scholar’s core values of servant leadership, professional excellence and social responsibility.

DOST 7 Scholarship Focal Person Ms. Elvirg F. Solana shared that the scholars’ associations are judged according to their impact of accomplishments (40%), engagement of scholars (20%), active participation in the DOST and/or university activities (15%), community participation (15%) and creativity (10%).

All winners will each receive a plaque of recognition plus P7,000.00, P5,000.00 and P3,000.00 for the 1st placer, 2nd placer and 3rd placer, respectively. Non-winners will receive P1,000.00 consolation prize.

Aside from the top 3 winners, other scholars’ association include DOST SA CTU, DOST SA CNU and DOST SA USC, DOST SA UP and DOST SA USJR.
