Carrying the theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan,” the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) VII is bringing the 2022 National Science and Technology Week in Central Visayas closer to the people with interactive exhibits and activities at Robinsons Galleria, Cebu City on October 12 to 14.

After several pandemic-related restrictions are lifted, the NSTW-CV resumes face-to-face celebration this year. The three-day event highlights significant activities namely, S&T exhibits, forums, and awarding of Outstanding CEST Community and SETUP Projects as well as the Most Outstanding Scholars’ Association. The event and exhibits are the perfect venues for technology developers and investors, students as well as S&T service providers and clients to interact and pursue potential opportunities.

 

The grand opening of NSTW-Central Visayas and S&T exhibits was graced by the DOST Secretary, Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST 7 Regional Director, Engr. Jesus F. Zamora Jr., PAGASA 7 Chief, Engr. Alfredo Quiblat Jr., PhiVolcs 7 Director, Engr. Robinson Jorgio, and PSHS-Central Visayas Campus SSD Chief, Mr. Kenneth Balili.

In the 2nd day of the event Parallel activities were also held in 2 other venues. The DOST-SEI’s In Touch with Excellence was held at the Summit Galleria Hotel. This celebrates the achievements of DOST scholars as a way to showcase the truest impact of the government’s science and technology scholarship program. On the other hand, the DOST VII and the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute held the STARBOOKS Convention at DepEd Ecotech Center. This activity aims to promote the use of STARBOOKS towards a sustainable and resilient future.

In the 3rd day of the event, S&T forums continue and will be followed by the closing ceremonies which will be attended by Ms. Melanie Ng, the RDC Economic Development Committee Chair and the Regional Governor of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Region 7 who will deliver an inspirational message, and Mr. Samuel A. Parcon, DOST 7 Assistant Regional Director for Finance and Admin who will officially close the event.

This entire celebration of NSTW-CV aims for people to experience the vital role of science, technology, and innovation in improving people’s quality of life and contributing to national development. It is conducted every year to give recognition to the accomplishments and outstanding personalities in science and technology. It will also showcase the significant contributions of science and technology to national development.

This year’s theme conveys how science, research, and technology have been our partners to have a stable and prosperous community. It shows how the inventions of modern tools have helped us to further develop the country and its community, how our knowledge continues to increase due to the study of science, how we constantly discover things through research, and how modern technology has helped us pull through, especially during the pandemic.

To entertain the audience and promote science and technology, DOST 7’s version of the Sineskwela cast and DOST’s Smarty also joined the celebration.

Aside from the special guests, the event is attended by entrepreneurs, students and scholars, partners and stakeholders from the public and private sectors. The Cebu Technological University Choristers and Dance Troupe also showcased their talents during the activity.
