Governor Jake Vincent S. Villa laid out his administration’s plans for the province of Siquijor in his State of the Province Address (SOPA) last September 17, 2022 during the 51st Araw Ng Siquijor celebration.

Among one of those that he mentioned was on agricultural development with a focus on the establishment and operation of an agricultural complex.

He said the province’s agricultural industry could only be bolstered with the convergence of services from the different local government units, national government agencies, the academe, and non-government institutions.

Along this line, the Department of Science of Technology has long been an ally to the provincial government of Siquijor.  Last 2020, the National Research Council of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology Region VII granted the PLGU-Siquijor with a Grant-in-Aid (GIA) intervention in the form of a feed mill to support the Cattle Production in the island.

In a way, this will serve as an answer to one of the problems faced by livestock and poultry raisers in Siquijor which is the escalating costs of commercial feeds.

Engr. Mario E. de la Peña, the Provincial Director of DOST-Siquijor said:  “I cannot overemphasize the fact that DOST remains a willing intervenor in the development plan of PLGU-Siquijor.  There is always a support from our office if it means for the benefit of Siquijor.”

Gov. Villa echoed a call to all Siquijodnons to move forward in their journey to see a better Siquijor.
