On January 14, 2022 the DOST Siquijor PSTC, Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation, and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office joined hands in distributing nutribun in three most affected barangays of typhoon Odette as per MDRRMO Siquijor assessment. Dubbed “Bayanihan Feeding Program: By the Youth, For the Youth,” the group handed in a total of 300 pieces nutribun to the children of Barangays Caipilan, Pasihagon, and Tongo of Siquijor, Siquijor.
Hon. Brylle Deeiah Tomarong, the SKPF President sliced a pie from her personal money to buy juices and biscuits to compliment the nutribun. She could not be less happier witnessing a motley of smiling and happy kids as they received the care package. Equally, she was grateful that her office continues to be an agent in conducting a community project. She said: “A care-giving activity like this can eliminate stress and I hope for more collaboration with DOST for another community project.”
The SK also visited an indigent, a senior citizen, and a victim of typhoon Odette in Barangay Songculan who showed the same expression of happiness and enthusiasm as that of the children. One was heard saying, “Naa pa diay maluoy nako.” (I am happy to know there are still people who care for me.” The effects of Odette have brought back the spirit of bayanihan, helping hand, and volunteerism from among the youth.
